BLAST FROM THE BOW TIE PAST WITH BANJO BILLY & JUMPIN' JACK

With everyone so focused on The Hunger Games [star, Josh Hutcherson is a bow tie fan] & b-ball brackets [as art], it’s nice to get lost in old news and unearth some hidden gems.  In the past I’ve covered dwindling #bowtielove in Congress and some impressive gifts for your menfolk on those busy indoor days.

Today’s #BowTieFriday is an investigative piece into the ad below for Banjo Billy’s Fun Boat (1961 to 1970). Take a look before I begin:

Image Credit: The Miami News. March 2, 1964.A Google search for 'Banjo Billy' or 'Banjo Billy's Fun Boat' will bring up a few forum threads of people looking to connect with others that watched or were on the show.  This was clearly not enough for one [slighty crazy] gentleman, the self-titled Stan the Man.  Stan hunted down Banjo Billy (alive and well in Melbourne, FL) and pulled together the following "interview."  I use that word quite loosely.

Are you obsessed with Billy? I almost want to start a petition to get this man back in the spotlight, Betty White-style.

Now to bring this whole story to the present day, and a bit of a somber note, occassional show guest and host of Jumpin’ Jack’s Four O’ Clock Club Jack O'Brien passed away Monday, March 19, at the ripe age of 84. Look at this guy's bow tie #swoon.

PS: Only 28 days to go!  {Every $1 helps}

PPS: I'm lounge DJ-ing ¡WHATEVER! tonight at Deity! 10p - 4a! 368 Atlantic Ave! $10! Free Chambord Vodka 10p - 11p!

PPPS: I could never resist a coloring contest.... hope I win!

THE ARCHIVES: GIFTS FOR YOUR MENFOLK

I know you're all frantically Cyber Monday-ing right now, but take a breather to enjoy the ad below for Marian Martin's Pattern Book from the Spartanberg Herald-Journal newspaper dated December 4, 1940.  Only a quarter for the entire book?!  Those were the days...

It's always heart-warming to reminisce on #bowtielove from the past, and Marian Martin's (pictured) choice vocabulary for "these gay accessories for men and boys" is exceptional!  With the holidays upon us, this lovely lady deserves the honor of today's #BowTieMonday post.

Top 5 Marian Martin-isms

5. busy indoor days
4. menfolk
3. frocks for day
2. quick-as-a-flash
1. evening merrymaking

Thanks for reading - Happy #BowTieMonday!

THE ARCHIVES: CONGRESS WAVERS ON BOW TIES, DEBATE TO ENSUE

Welcome back to #BowTieMonday on the newly re-designed MadeInForestHills.com.  Today I delve into the archives to bring you an article of historical significance pertaining to our dear pal, the bow tie.

Date: Sunday, January 6, 1963.  Scene: the people of Missouri are waking up after a night of tragedy.  In New York City, both Camelot and Carnival! close after 873 and 719 performances, respectively.  San Diego annihilates Boston 51-10 in the AFL championship game.  American baseball sweetheart, Roger Hornsby, passes from heart conditions at 66.  Men and women are opening their Sunday morning papers thirsty for any drop of comedic relief or uplifting report.  However, the headlines Few Congressman Are Bow Tie Fans as well as Chin Whiskers, Bow Tie On Wane in Congress blind like a solar eclipse party sans cheap cardboard glasses.

A double KO, hairless faces, and vertical neckwear had invaded and won the America we once loved.  The pocket directory for the 88th Congress revealed a single bow tie was worn during Congressional picture day, and the man sporting it was a cartoon.  And a Republican.  Woof!

It's safe to say bow ties are beginning a steady march back into the spotlight.  Props to the St. Joseph Gazette and Jefferson City’s News and Tribune - these articles are a fun read.
